Bafumbira World is a community of ‘Bafumbira’ people who hail from Kisoro and across the globe and have a common goal to protect, preserve and showcase our cultural heritage to the world.
The Bafumbira are a Bantu ethnic group from Kisoro District in South Western Uganda. The Bafumbira speak a language called “Rufumbira” which is a dialect of Kinyarwanda but with a difference in the accents and pronounciation.
Kisoro District shares a boundary with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the West and the Republic of Rwanda in the south.
Kisoro is also home to the Mountain Gorillas found in Mgahinga National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The famous Muhabura Volcanic Mountains and the hilly terrain, the snaking Kabale – Kisoro road together with Bwindi impenetrable forest and Echuya bamboo forest make Kisoro one of the most beautiful parts of the world. Uganda’s Title the ‘Pearl of Africa’ is attributed to this beauty.
